Joliette x Crafted to Bloom: Holiday Heirloom Collection

White Bomb Peony sculptures in a French antique basket

A holiday collaboration that showcases my one-of-a-kind paper White Bomb Peony sculptures and limited edition still life notecards.

For the last two months, I’ve been working quietly making white bomb peony sculptures and designing notecards for a collaboration with Joliette. Joliette is a local vintage & antiques store in Pickering, about an hour away from where i live. Run by two best friends and female entrepreneurs - Holly and Jenna - their goal is to offer one-of-a-kind, well loved, pieces. To this end, our collaboration is really a way to offer our customers unique art that fits with their aesthetic and quality. I really appreciated that they saw my art as, well, ART, and wanted to market it as such instead of merely as an accessory for their vintage pieces..

Once I saw my paper sculptures and notecards in their shop, I knew we had made the right decision to work together.

Sculptures

I’ve been making a small batch of White Bomb Peony sculptures in two different forms. There will be 13 sculptures in total with the gold gilded leaf:

Freestanding sculptures that can be inserted into a vessel or mounted onto a wall with a European push pin and an attached wire (like these); and

Sculptures that stand in disc-like bases, hand made and hand painted to mimic marble stone (like this one).

Each sculpture has one or two leaves that is gilded with gold, a tag with my signature, and they are each numbered, dated, and signed by yours truly. They are also accompanied with a Certificate of Authenticity, a care card, and if applicable, a European push pin with mounting instructions.

The sculptures are made of 60g Italian crepe paper laminated for reinforcement and integrity, and some are wired. The leaves, calyx, and stems are painted with acrylic for archival quality.

Notecards

When I first met with Holly and Jenna, we discussed art prints that I was working towards. I was in the middle of editing a few still life images of my white bomb peony sculptures. We decided that notecards would be more suitable for the holidays and as a result, the White Peony Notecard Set was born.

This set consists of 4 images - 2 landscape and 2 portrait orientations. They capture two still life scenes where the sculptures are arranged on top of a marble board and with a mirror. I’ve juxtaposed the inanimate sculptures with real grapes and other inanimate objects, including strawberries and honeycombs.

They depict beauty in aging and in death, and challenging our perception of what is living and what is inanimate. These images are an exploration of these themes. I love them so much that I submitted two of these images to upcoming juried exhibitions.

Only 32 sets available and once they’re gone, that’s it.
